Buying in bulk seems smart. If you have an SUV. And a tolerance for long lines and membership fees.
Elevating your penny-pinching to genius level is Boxed, an app for iPhone and Android to buy bulk items for cheap and have it all shipped right to your door.
Though the app only stocks hundreds (instead of hundreds of thousands) of products, what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in cost: In our spot comparisons, prices were typically lower than large online retailers like Amazon and Wal-Mart.
So when it comes to the basics – paper towels, detergent, toothpaste, etc. – you’d be hard-pressed to find a better way to stock up.
Boxed is available in the contiguous 48 states, and even offers free overnight shipping in certain cities. And if you aren’t keen on shopping on your phone or tablet, Boxed plans on expanding to the Web in the near future.
And you won’t find any long line there, either.
