One of the most annoying aspects of using the Internet for anything more than getting a weather forecast is the need to enter (and remember) passwords.

Thankfully, there’s PassPack, a free, secure password-management tool that allows you to organize your passwords and access all your password-protected sites with one click.

Once you create an account (using a secure code that not even the site has access to) you add your various pins and passwords under the Passwords tab. (You can enter up to 100 for free).

The site will also help you generate secure passwords and offers encryption tools.

After you create a PassPack bookmark for a specific page (your Amazon account, say), the site will automatically log you in when you visit.

You can also use Passpack to record and maintain data on your frequent-flier miles, warranties, and other PINs.

And, for those times when you’re not using your own computer they offer the ability to create disposable passwords.

In other words you no longer have to make every password you dog’s name or your child’s birthday.

Buying a digital camera can be intimidating. There are a frustrating number of choices, and each model is supported by a sea of unfiltered information.

To help navigate we suggest you try DP Review, a vast and thorough repository that cuts through the clutter.

To start you search for a specific camera or brand you want more information about. (They also cover lenses, which can be more confusing than cameras). From there, DP Review will retrieve content from ten years’ worth of archived reviews.

Once you’ve selected a camera to review, the site thoroughly breaks down the pros and cons in a number of important categories. Evaluating everything from design to software to comparison tests with other competitive models, the reviews are amazingly detailed.

They’re also organized into digestible parts, which is what makes comparison and selection so easy.

Those without a specific camera in mind can use the buyer’s guide, which allows you to search via a variety of categories (pixels, digital zoom, etc.). Based on your criteria the database provides several recommended options to choose from.

They also offers a comprehensive glossary, a thorough camera database and a timeline of new digital camera product announcements going back to 1995 (which is when the first digital cameras were made available to consumers).

The only thing the site won’t do is make the ultimate decision for you.

Ever wondered how much riboflavin you need to consume on a daily basis (or even what riboflavin is)?

Look no further than Nutrition Data, a one-stop source for all your nutritional analysis and food management needs.

The well-designed site offers a vast array of tools that help you understand what foods you need to eat (and which you should avoid).

One that we like is the Daily Needs Calculator, which determines the number of calories you burn, your body mass index (BMI) and the recommended daily amounts of various nutrients you need, based on your age, weight and exercise regimen.

There are tools that allow you to track the foods you consume over time, analyze recipes and rank popular food brands in terms of calories, carbs and fat content.

You can also get the lowdown on items from a variety of fast food chains, from Arby’s to White Castle.

The information provided about specific foods and brands is very thorough and includes graphical representations of the nutrition (or lack thereof).

Spoiler alert: corn dogs have not suddenly become healthy.

To cut through the clutter we recommend TeuxDeux, a free web-based to-do application that organizes your routine within an interface that is noteworthy for its elegant minimalism.

While most apps proudly showcase a myriad of categorization options, TeuxDeux favors as few distracting elements as possible.

To begin, just sign up for a free account. Then start adding upcoming tasks.

To do this click under the appropriate day of the week and add the item. In the spirit of keeping things simple, the app only displays five days at once (though you can scroll ahead to future dates).

Best of all, the service is free (though a premium version is in the works, as is a mobile phone app).

The next time you find yourself adding “learn how to use calendar application” to your list of tasks, TeuxDeux will be there to simplify your life.

Ah, the Oscars, full of ersatz pageantry and long-winded speeches. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a way to make the event worth watching?

Like gambling on the outcome.

We can’t advocate illegal activities, but we can suggest a new iPhone app called The Envelope, which provides a pretty good simulation.

Users are given a virtual bank of $10,000 to wager on who they think will win. The “stock prices” for a nominated actor, director, or movie change based on the volume of “buying and selling” by the players.

Yes, for once Streep is cheaper than Bullock.

The app also includes real-time news feeds from the LA Times, to help guide your investments.

But if you really want to game your friendly pool check out InTrade, a futures trading platform with a pop cultural bent. (You can transact on when Tiger Woods will play golf again and who will win American Idol).

Trading with them might be a bit dicey (its application to be part of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is in limbo). But using their Academy Awards contracts as a guidepost to your own picks is wise, given their predictive success in the past.

Finally, for those who are looking for some way to avoid the Oscars, check out these archival videos, which features Academy Awards winners (and others who will never hold a golden statue) doing Japanese commercials they hoped you’d never see.

Remember when your life was devoted to the pursuit of intellectual betterment? Ya, college wasn’t like that for us either.

But thanks to a new easy-learning service called Smart.fm you can learn just about anything–languages, the game of chess–without the burden of going back to school.

The site uses word games, flash cards and other brain training tools to help you learn–and, more importantly, to retain all the new information.

To start you sign up and choose a goal (you can search their list of thousands or create your own).

The site gives you a choice of learning methods and then constructs a schedule that tells you when and what to study.

Based on its advanced algorithms it determines how you’re performing and where you need improvement, and it alters the study schedule accordingly.

If you’d prefer to work with other students try the community section. You can even post a study journal and try custom goals created by other users.

Too busy to do it at home? Download the Smart.fm iPhone app and you can spend a subway ride brushing up on your Latin declensions.

Pop quizzes were never so much fun.

We all have old sweaters we no longer wear. Wouldn’t it be nice to have them recycled into fancy new duds?

That’s the premise behind Reknit, a new service run by an inventive proprietor whose mother has some serious skills with the knitting needles.

Send them an old sweater and they’ll unravel it and use the materials to create a new item of clothing (gloves, a hat, a scarf, etc.)

Reknit creates a different piece of clothing each month. Their current offering is winter hats. Items are selected based on user votes, so if you want to influence their upcoming projects, be sure to vote in their interactive poll.

Because they literally work by hand they can only accept 30 requests (at $30 each) per month. So sign up quickly if you plan to use the service. It takes them about six hours to complete an order, so the turnaround is rather quick.

Can’t part with that old ski pullover from the 80s? The site directs you to a nearby Goodwill store so you can buy one to use.

Think of it as doing your part to help keep the environment free of ugly sweaters.

They are questions that humankind has pondered through the ages: How long does it take to boil an egg? And what can you do for fun while it’s boiling?

Finally, the answers have been revealed, thanks to a playful and stylish new site called Eggwatchers.

As you move through the process you’re asked to describe your egg (is it small or large? Is it just out of the fridge?) and, of course, how you want it to end up (given that the site’s creators are British they offer “squidgy” or “firm”).

It’ll then provide with you with an answer (in minutes) and a very inventive egg timer: When you click the timer it randomly selects a YouTube video that matches the exact length of time your egg will need to boil.

(During our tests we were treated to a montage from The Simpsons, a clip from a Japanese game show and a guy playing the drums really, really well).

Our hope is that the folks behind the site do timers for all types of foods (but then, we tend to get bored easily when we cook).

Thanks to a new service called Citrify, you can edit your photos for free.

And, unlike other editing tools, this one can be used via your browser (their Flash interface is very intuitive and well-designed).

The Touch-Up menu provides a wide range of cosmetic tools, including a “Wrinkle” button to remove lines and a Blemish function for covering things up. There’s even a “Toothbrush” button, which adds whitening.

Of course you can also alter the brightness, saturation, contrast and hue of your photos with easy-to-use sliders.

With the Effects button, you can filter your photo to look like a watercolor, tint someone green with the “Hulkify” option or use the ever-popular “Obamify” effect.

Don’t like what you’ve done? The app has an Undo button that logs all of your changes and lets you backtrack to your original settings at any point in the editing process.

And, with their new Facebook app you can directly edit the photos in your Facebook albums.

Most of us have at least one moment of shopping panic a year—usually the last minute before the holidays—where we frantically scout the web for an impossible-to-find gift.

To keep your sanity in check, use The Find, a vertical search engine for shopping that puts every product, store, sale and coupon at your fingertips.

The site combs through over 500,000 retailers to offer more than 300 million listings, checking both major suppliers (like Amazon) and local stores.

You can refine your search by price, color, brand and locale. You can also click on the Coupon button to find online discount codes that apply to that product.

If you’d prefer the immediacy of buying the item from a physical store, click on the Local tab and you’ll get a listing (and a map) of shops that are close to you that sell the product you’re seeking. (When you sign up for the site you give them your locale).

Those concerned about sustainable living can use their Green tab, which only pulls products from select Green retailers (such as Edible Nature and Good Guide).

True shopaholics will appreciate their iPhone app, which tracks your location and searches for goods (and deals) in nearby stores.
